Milton Keynes remembers The Father Of Loud, Jim Marshall

It really doesn't seem possible that the world said a final goodbye to Jim Marshall five years ago this week.

When the founder of the world famous Marshall Amplification passed away, the music world united to pay tribute.

Slash was among those remembering a real icon:

"Not only did he create the loudest, most effective, brilliant-sounding Rock & Roll amplifier ever designed, but he was a caring, hardworking family man who remained true to his integrity to the very end. His work ethic was unequaled and his passion unrivaled.

"Jim cared for all his customers like they were his family. He would do whatever it took to make sure an artist was completely satisfied and he made sure his staff did likewise. It was very important to him that Marshall quality and customer care was paramount.

"Jim's passing marks the end of a very loud and colorful era.  This industry will likely never see the likes of Jim again. But his legacy will live on forever," he said.

Of course every time a musician plugs in an amp with Jim's signature adorning the front, it's a tribute, and an acknowledgement to the legend who made music louder, and better.

And in the town he lived and where his business' headquarters still flourish, Milton Keynes will be paying its own special tribute on Wednesday (April 5) - with a guitar-driven event at Jim's dedicated pillar at the MK Rose in Campbell Park.

Marshall's guitar demonstrator, Steve Smith, will play tribute, and Oli Brown - from MK-based rock mob RavenEye will be plugging in and sounding out too.

"My heroes all used Marshall's and I fell in love with them too," Oli said, "I'm going to crank the amp and rock out hard!" he promised.

In West London, the fifth Hanwell Hootie will also remember The Father of Loud on May 6.

Jim sold his first amp on Hanwell High Street, and the festival which launched after his passing, is now London's biggest free one day festival!

Speaking about the MK Rose event, Marshall Amplification managing director Jon Ellery said: "This date honours the memory of Jim and the global brand which he created and brought to Milton Keynes, which changed the sound of rock music."

Wednesday's MK Rose event will take place at  12.30pm and all are welcome to attend.
