Second Milton Keynes Community Boat public meeting happening tonight

A second public meeting to discuss the development of the Milton Keynes Community Boat will be held tonight (Tuesday, September 24).

The first explored the possibility of running a Community Boat on the Grand Union Canal at Milton Keynes, and proved to be very successful with a number of volunteers offering to help run the boat.

At this second meeting a report will be given on the progress being made by the Project Team since the first meeting, and there will also be an opportunity for more people to offer to volunteer.

The Project Team are looking for people to volunteer as Skippers and Boat Crew, Cabin Hosts, as well as Boat Maintenance and Operations volunteers. Training will be offered to volunteers who have no boating experience. A local MK Management Team will also be required.

The partners in the project, the Bedford & Milton Keynes Waterway Enterprise Board, the Parks Trust and Crest Nicholson (who are developing Campbell Wharf) are looking for more funding to progress the project with the aim of receiving the boat next spring, training new recruits followed by the launch.

The boat will be a 12 seater, environmentally friendly boat being powered by an electric power unit. It will be run by volunteers following the success of the John Bunyan Community Boat in Bedford which the B&MK Waterway Enterprise runs. The boat will be based at Campbell Wharf Marina.

Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting, come and find out more, share your views, and offer some help if you can.
