INTRODUCTORY CODING SESSIONS FOR KIDS AT THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF COMPUTING

Free Weekend Codability sessions are taking place at The National Museum of Computing for kids and there is plenty of opportunity to get involved – they will run every weekend through to the end of August 2015. The sessions will introduce young people (up to age 16) to programming computers – learning how to give instructions to computers, change existing instructions in programs and create their own. And where better to host the events than among the restored and reconstructed historic machines in Block H, the first-purpose built centre which housed the wartime Colossus computers. Codability Guides, young people recruited for the duration of the programme, will give visitors lessons on devices spanning the 1980s BBC Micro to Raspberry Pi and other platforms. Modern laptops and tablets will be available too. The events are just the beginning for young coders, who will leave the flexible sessions (which last for an hour or so) with information leaflets to make sure they can continue developing skills at home, school or at a coding club. There is no need to pre-book, simply turn up with an adult and ask for Weekend Codability. For more information, click to www.tnmoc.org/learn
