MK GALLERY ANNOUNCES ITS FIRST FAMILY IN RESIDENCE

The Aylard family from Oxley Park have become MK Gallery’s first 'Family-in Residence.'

Their three month appointment marks the start of a pilot residency programme devised by MK Gallery’s Learning Team that seeks to involve families, staff and artists in the co-creation of whole family events that meet the needs and interests of its communities.

Over the course of a year the gallery will host four, successive Families-in-Residence.

Each family will be assigned an MK Gallery Associate Artist to work with, and then commission them to deliver a one-off, public event at the end of their three month residency.

As part of our City Club project whilst MK Gallery is being renovated and expanded, we are testing different ways of including our communities in the co-creation of our learning programme,” said MK Gallery’s Childhood Learning Coordinator Bethany Mitchell.

Every three months we will recruit a different family and partner them with one of our Associate Artists for bespoke, exploratory workshops where they will identify subjects, themes, media and techniques that interest them.

Inspired by their creative sessions, they will then conceive and commission the delivery of an open, family learning session at the end of their residency, that could appeal to the whole family, from babies and toddlers through to grandparents,” she added.

We are really excited to be a part of this new MK Gallery family project and looking forward to starting work with our artist to see what we come up with!
