International bestselling crime and thriller author Linwood Barclay called in at Waterstones in Milton Keynes on Friday, as part of a brief UK tour to promote his new page-turner, Elevator Pitch.
Linwood, who has more than 20 critically acclaimed novels on shelves (including the number one bestseller No Time For Goodbye) was interviewed by Total MK's Sammy Jones, before answering questions from a packed audience of fans.
Linwood regaled his audience as he explained his process for writing, what sparks his ideas, and of course explored his current book.
He also told what literary success means to him.
Linwood said: “I guess it looks like getting published and having bestsellers and so forth, but the other thing is that it's a privilege to be able to make a living at what you love doing. A lot of us have had to go to work at jobs that we don't like, and really don't enjoy for 35 or 40 hours a week, but we have to make a living,” he said.
“If you are a singer and can make a living singing, or if you are an artist and you can make a living painting, and so forth, that's a joyful thing, and you are really lucky. So I feel very privileged and lucky that I can do what I love doing...and it's possible that I am otherwise unemployable anyway,” he laughed.
The Canadian, who counts Stephen King and Joe Hill among his fervent fan base, promises that Elevator Pitch will 'do for elevators what Psycho did for showers, or Jaws did for the beach,' and having read the book, we agree with that!
