Enjoy a little 'hillbilly trance' with The Delta Ladies at Forest Folk and Roots

On Friday (October 20) Forest Folk and Roots brings The Delta Ladies to town.

The DL’s - ‘where old-time Americana meets the Velvet Underground’ - are Vi Martin (Guitar, Bouzouki, Chromatic Dulcimer and Banjo) and Dee Stone (Fiddle, keyboards and piano).

The resultant sound, ‘Hillbilly Trance’ is a mesmerising, rhythmic fusion of Roots, World, Folk and Blues rhythms.
They deliver an energetic mix of originals and cover versions, and their music is clearly defined by their many influences which range from Eric Clapton, Hendrix, Miles Davis and Fats’ Waller all the way to King Crimson and Gong!

They have played more than 2000 shown in the UK and France, and along the way have opened for artists including Lindisfarne and Fairport Convention.

Support comes from local Bedford singer-songwriter Thrash Gordon, aka Danny Young.
With a sound reminiscent of Jake Bugg, Danny established “Thrash Gordon” as a side project to his band to release songs online that would otherwise go unheard.

A couple of EP’s and a number of live shows followed.

Without a band to record or perform with, careful consideration was put in to how the acoustic songs would translate to the live stage.
“I didn't want to be another acoustic singer/songwriter tirelessly strumming away for 30 minutes, so I incorporated the use of mandolin and a foot tambourine to my set whilst bringing what I like to think of as a one man band rock n' roll energy,” he says.
The mandolin and foot tambourine have now become staple features in his songwriting, together with a harmonica and a home-made stomp box…

Make tracks to The College Arms Bar in Cranfield for 7.30pm. The music will begin at 8pm.
