HIGH CONTRAST: 'EDC ALWAYS DELIVERS SOMETHING MAGICAL'

The countdown to this year's Electric Daisy Carnival at the National Bowl is on, and in the lead up to the big event Total MK will be checking in with those who will be bringing the sounds to the dance spectacular.

Getting things started, it's Welsh ace High Contrast. He cut loose with his debut album, True Colours, in 2002.

Since then he has been in demand for his own releases, and as a remixer, which has seen him let loose on tracks by artists as wide ranging as Enter Shikari, Coldplay and Kanye West.

In 2012 he was instrumental in producing the music for the Athletes Parade at the 2012 Summer Olympics opening ceremony.

High Contrast shared his EDC memories with us...

How important is EDC as a brand?

I think they've built up an incredible global reputation for big events that manage to deliver the big names but also really take care of the details.

That's why I rate them so highly, all the cool little things you see at their events that people who only care about money would never bother with.

Tell us about your best EDC experience so far - on stage or off

I always have a blast just wandering around their events and taking in the amazing lights and stage production.

But there was a great moment when I was djing at EDC in Las Vegas a couple of years ago, playing high up on the Bass Pod stage, which is kind of like the birds nest on a pirate ship.

I played a drum n bass remix of Scary Monsters by Skrillex and few bars after the drop Skrillex himself appeared having climbed up the ladder to the Bass Pod to hug me for it playing it.

Who will you be most looking forward to checking in with on the day?

Fellow drum bass dj, Friction always delivers the goods. I'm also a fan of Claude Von Stroke who plays a great eclectic mix of electronic styles.

EDC takes the live experience to a new level, but how do these huge outdoor events vary from the more usual show for you?

I think the bigger the event, the more important stage production becomes.

DJing in clubs, you kinda just want it to be dark and loud. But at festivals you need more.

Some festivals that don't push the boat out on the lighting or design can feel a little dry, whereas EDC always manages to deliver something a bit magical.

Electric Daisy Carnival returns to the National Bowl on Saturday, July 11, 2015.
