Saturday night is music night at MK Gallery, with Yama Warashi in the driving seat

Yama Warashi is Bristol-based Japanese artist Yoshino Shigihara's solo project, and she will be playing for you at Milton Keynes Gallery this Saturday (Nov 26) night.
Her music has a dreamy evocative sound with a shadow of moon cake, inspired by Japanese folk dance music, Bon Odori, free jazz and African music with a slice of electric psychedelia.

Accompanied by saxophone, guitar and bass, Yoshino plays keyboard, percussions and sings songs in her mother tongue about mycelium, nuclear power and broken O.
And that name?  Yama Warashi means a small child-like spirit which lives in the mountains.

Artist, illustrator and multi-instrumentalist Nicolas Burrows (formerly ‘Glaciers’) is also on the bill.

He released his debut album under the  pseudonym Fell, swapping a lo-fi approach for the studio treatment.  If you like subtle and expansive arrangements full of understated guitars, shimmering organs and dark synths you are in luck.

They weave around Nicolas’ distinctive vocals, reverberating with echoes of Timber Timbre, Villagers and Little Wings.

Woozy, late-night breeze pop from Cavernzz completes the billing.

Doors open at 7.30pm and tickets are £6.
