After four long months with no gigs, Newport Pagnell's revered open session The Sunset Lounge is returning – on Thursday (July 16), the music will go live once again.
But there will be no piling in to the backroom of The Cannon as you would have in a pre-lockdown world. With live music still off the menu in pubs and venues, organisers are taking the evening into the fresh air.
The sheltered outdoor area at the pub will become the new temporary base for what will be an acoustic event. And the area is is only capable of seating 40 people while adhering to the social distancing measures.
That means that you need to be quick off the mark if you want to be in the audience; it's first come, first served, and no exceptions once that number limit is hit.
“We appreciate that this is far from the norm of what The SSL is and we have all missed it dearly,” said organiser Gareth Warren, “But for now, we feel this is the best and the safest way to start bringing it back and to start giving local musicians a place to come and perform live again,” he added.
Musicians wanting to spread musical cheer will have to 'book in' too.
If you fit that category, message the team via their official FB page to secure one of the 10 available slots. There will be no facility to simply rock up and rock out. Those days are gone. For the moment.
The event times have also changed, and The SSL will welcome you between 8pm and 10pm.
Obviously not everyone will be able to enjoy the session live, but that's not a problem; the online live stream will continue, so one way or another we can all get set for a sound-sational evening.
And one that is well overdue.
