This week at The Stables: With Silje Nergaard, Nell Bryden, Ben Smith & Jimmy Brewer, Kiki Dee, Peacock Angell and more...

The High Kings bring exciting Irish folk to the fore at The Stables this Thursday evening (November 17), showcasing awesome versatility and skills as multi-instrumentalists.
Eight years in to their highly successful career, the quartet arrive in these parts to tempt fans with a mix of old favourites and new excitement.   It's a sell-out, but try for returns, you've nothing to lose!

The first time we saw Silje Nergaard in Milton Keynes was in the early 1990s and she was supporting Fat and Frantic at The Pitz riding high on the radio friendly single Tell Me Where You're Going.

A quarter of a century or so later, and she is back in the Keynes, playing Stage 2 of the Wavendon venue.
Her UK return follows sold-out shows in the capital earlier in the year, and will shine a light on her current album Chain of Days, which was issued last year.
A little nugget for all you fact gatherers out there: Her 2001 album At First Light remains the best-selling Norwegian jazz album of all time.

Nell Bryden makes her return on Friday night (Nov 18) to showcase her intimate, heartfelt and captivating new album.  This release is every bit as diverse as it is expressly moving.
With her current release she shows that she is ready to celebrate a life touched by hardship and triumph.  She'll captivate you.

Ben Smith & Jimmy Brewer will be holding court over on Stage 2.

In 2012, they were both chosen to support Joan Armatrading as part of a 'local talent' unearthing.
She liked them so much, they found themselves engaged in her company again in 2015 for her first ever solo tour.
Realising a natural affinity for each other's styles, they began playing together...

Kiki Dee & Carmelo Luggeri are up on Saturday night (Nov 19).  Kiki and Carmelo have been touring their acoustic live show across the UK and Europe for the past couple of decades, and this show will set out Kiki's huge solo successes alongside covers by artists as diverse as Kate Bush and Frank Sinatra.

Kiki shared her musical likes and loves in Total MK's On Track.  Read it: http://totalmk.co.uk/music/on-track-ahead-of-her-return-to-the-stables-kiki-dee-answers-total-mks-questions

Peacock Angell - aka Sid and Ruth - 'marry the bright blue shores of County Down with the High peaks and green fields of Derbyshire.'
Collectively, theirs is a sound mythical, magical and multi-layered, inspired by beautiful places, great poets, down and outs, new arrivals and feathered friends, and they will spend Saturday night hosting Stage 2.

An Evening with Gervase Phinn is waiting on Sunday night (November 20) at the venue.  With a keen eye for the absurd and a sharp eye for the ludicrous, this raconteur will reel you in with his often hilarious and sometime poignant tales of life as a schools inspector in the Yorkshire Dales.

While the tales are told in the Jim Marshall auditorium, Stage 2 presents the New Generation Blues Triple Bill, with the Danny Giles Band, Salvation Jayne and The Rainbreakers sorting the sounds.
Quality doesn't need to cost the earth either - and a mere £12.50 gets you in for all three portions of playability.

Stage 2 will be busy on Stage 2, when uke-cello duo James Hill Jand Anne Janelle return.

A duo onstage and off, they travel the world making music, and they are multiplying - since last playing here, they've welcomed son Alder into the world.
Alder travels with the pair wherever they go, and they have quite the itinerary - this year they've played across their native Canada. the USA, Australia, Scotland, Mexico, the Czech Republic...and now England!
But Alder seems to take it all in his stride.

In concert, James is a dazzling performer with a genial low-key sense of humour, while Anne brings her gorgeous syrupy voice to songs that are inventive, entertaining and beautifully written.
Enjoy the perfect union from 8.45pm.

Seeing out the week is Wednesday's (November 23) date with Badfinger.
The band were signed by The Beatles back in 1970, and their history is rich in triumph and tragedy.
Debut single Come and Get It was penned by McCartney, and more success followed with tracks including Day After Day and baby Blue before they band called time.
Bob Jackson - part of the original line-up - is once again driving the Badfinger legacy.  They go live after 8pm.
