A RIGHT ROYAL WORLD BOOK NIGHT AT THE PRINCE GEORGE

Bookworms enjoyed a World Book Night event organised by city author Carole Matthews last night. Bestselling author Carole might make a living penning her own novels but the queen of romantic fiction does her fair share of reading too. World Book Night sees passionate volunteers give away hundreds of thousands of copies of books in their communities to encourage other people to lose themselves in a good story. Carole is the ideal World Book Night advocate – fans on Facebook and Twitter are regularly kept up to date with the latest paperbacks to pique her interest and her posts are often illustrated with glimpses of the newest books to make it onto her shelves. She got her local pub, The Prince George in Tattenhoe, on board and the event was a ‘bestseller’. Carole said: “About 30 book fans came along to partake of a beverage or two and take home some great books. “The official World Book Night book I was giving away was Adele Parks’ novel, Whatever It Takes. “Adele and I have known each other for a long time and her books are great so it was lovely for me to be chosen as a giver for one of my favourite authors.” Visitors were also treated to copies of Carole’s books ‘The Only Way is Up’ and ‘Welcome to the Real World’ and had the opportunity to get them signed. A book swap table meant everyone was able to pass on their own favourites and pick up something different. Carole adds: “Thanks to the managers of The Prince George, Jez and Kerry, for taking a chance on hosting. “Becca, Charlotte and the team were great. “This is a new pub on our estate and it’s already settling into the community. “It also happens to look very nice and has lovely food – what more could you want!” By Georgina Butler   Carole’s latest paperback release ‘A Place to Call Home’ has just entered the Sunday Times bestseller list at number 17.
