Fundraisers for Medical Detection Dogs in Milton Keynes are encouraging people to collect free donations simply by doing their shopping online.
The charity works in partnership with researchers, NHS Trusts and Universities, training specialist dogs to detect the odour of human disease.
Medical Detection Dogs trains; Cancer Detection Dogs to detect the volatile substances released by cancer cells, and Medical Alert Assistance Dogs, to assist people who manage complex medical conditions every day.
The dogs are taught to identify the odour changes that are associated with certain medical events, saving the lives of individuals on a daily basis.
To raise much needed funds, the charity is registered on easyfundraising.org.uk a free, nationwide service which aids causes and charities to reach their fundraising goals. People who want to donate can simply choose to do their shopping via the website, and after purchasing the retailer makes a free donation– it doesn’t cost a penny extra. John Lewis, Debenhams and ASOS are amongst 3,000 retailers who will donate to local causes like Medical Detection Dogs.
The charity receives no government support or funding and solely relies on trust funding and the donations and hard work of its supporters and volunteers.
Lack of money is slowing their progress.
Christina Bowden, PR, Marketing and Events Manager for Medical Detection Dogs, said: “easyfundraising.org.uk is an important part of our fundraising mission and any donations given will significantly help us to carry on delivering our day-to-day work and support our loyal volunteers. We’d urge anyone who is interested in helping out to visit the easyfundraising site simply whilst doing their day to day shopping.”
