The first public meeting exploring the possibility of running a Community Boat on the Grand Union Canal at Milton Keynes was held at the Parks Trust Headquarters and proved to be very successful with a number of volunteers offering to help run the boat.
The partners in the project, the Bedford & Milton Keynes Waterway Trust with its trading company BMK Enterprises Ltd, the Parks Trust and Crest Nicholson/Campbell Wharf, are now moving ahead with the project to run a community boat in Milton Keynes.
The MK Community Boat will be run by volunteers, following the success of the John Bunyan Community Boat in Bedford.
It will be a 12-passenger boat and it will be based at Campbell Wharf Marina. It is planned to commence operations in late spring 2020.
Attached picture shows the Mayor of Milton Keynes Councillor Sam Crooks with a number of interested supporters of the community boat.
A second public meeting is to be held on Tuesday 24 September at 7pm at the Parks Trust Headquarters, Campbell Park Pavilion, 1300 Silbury Blvd, Milton Keynes MK9 4AD and is open to anyone interested in the project.
It will be your chance to find out more, share your views, and offer some help if you can! RSVP to jane.wolfson@mkcommunityboat.org toconfirm your attendance.
Funding to build the boat is currently being sought and the team running the MK Community Boat Project are also looking for sponsorship from local business and for funding opportunities.
