National Table Tennis Day proved a smash 'hit' in Milton Keynes this week

National Table Tennis Day was celebrated on Wednesday, with Milton Keynes selected to host the showcase event.

Table Tennis England – the national governing body for the sport - took over the shopping centre, turning intu into a festival of fun to get passers-by to give it a go.

Table Tennis England CEO CEO Sara Sutcliffe said: "We had a game at the highest point in England at Scafell Pike and our main event as Table Tennis England was in intu Milton Keynes.

"The shoppers loved the chance to pick up a bat and have a go at the robot challenge or take on one of our international athletes."

The day was all about showing how it’s never been easier to pick up a bat and get involved in table tennis.

There are tables in shopping centres, parks, railways centres, leisure centres – even beaches, and it’s one of the easiest sports to get into and to play and just get more active.

There are free tables all around Milton Keynes that the public can access and play on, and intu itself will be opening a Ping Pong Parlour next month giving shoppers the chance to keep playing after Table Tennis Day.
