Labour councillors are celebrating after MK Council agreed to fund a new safety crossing on Queensway.
Cllr Elaine Wales (Lab, Bletchley Park) and Cllr Mohammed Khan (Lab, Bletchley East) have been campaigning on the issue since 2015.
The scheme secured funding as part of the Labour-led council’s budget that was passed on Wednesday night.
It is hoped the crossing will be situated between the Nationwide Building Society and Poundstretcher.
Cllr Elaine Wales said:“I’m really pleased to have been able to secure this funding. We’ve been campaigning for this safety crossing for years. I know it was already planned to happen, I’m pleased that it will now be brought forward.
Cllr Mohammed Khan added:“We see this as part of the Labour-led council’s commitment to a Brighter Bletchley and improving Queensway. We won’t stop at this; we need a proper plan for our high street in the town.”
Cllr Wales added: “I am glad I was able to secure the agreement for this funding from the Cabinet. It isn’t often the case that an amendment to a budget is accepted, but I asked them and highlighted how important it was and highlighted my campaign. I’m glad they agreed and that Queensway will now be a bit safer.”
