THIS WEEK AT THE STABLES: STARRING MARTIN HARLEY, JULIA FORDHAM, GLYNDEBOURNE OPERA, POLICE DOG HOGAN...
Experience the sounds - and flavours - of Chile this Thursday (Nov 20) with Pascuala Ilabaca and Fauna, live at The Stables.
The accordian-wielding songstress is rooted in traditional sounds, but not afraid to integrate shades of jazz, pop and rock - and influences taken from the distant areas of India and Mexico.
It's a fulfilling sound that is both sweet and solid, and while we are talking about the fulfilling side of things, we recommend you splash a few quid more and enjoy a full-fill of Chilean cuisine pre-show, at Cafe in 2.
Go West are back again on Friday, but tickets to see Peter and Richard at work are long gone, and Stage 2 is all sold-out too - with funny-fella Paul Foot (below) at the microphone.
The title alone probably shifted all tickets - Hovercraft in Gammon # major.
A quarter century has passed since Julia Fordham released Porcelain, and she will perform the work in its entirety on Saturday night (Nov 22): "To this day, people still stop me in the street and sing songs from Porcelain to me," she revealed.
"They share stories about how much the album connected with them, so it's an honour to perform the whole album for the faithful audience that has supported me all these years."
At the time of writing, a clutch of standing tickets are all that remain for the date.
Acclaimed singer-songwriter Martin Harley (below) will hold court on Stage 2, as he steps out solo. Expect to hear material from past releases and the new, Texas-recorded release Mojo Fix from the slide guitar ace.
Glyndebourne Opera Company presents The Cunning Little Vixen on Sunday morning (Nov 23) at 11.30am.
Clocking in at three hours long (including a break for lunch) Melly Still's interpretation of Janácek's work 'makes the Vixen's encounter with life in the forest both heartbreaking ands humorous, and painfully real.'
Back to Basie takes a clutch of London session musicians and jazz soloists who combine talents to do justice to Count Basie's swingin' machine. You'll catch them on Sunday evening.
A Celebration of Walter Trout's Music was set for Monday, but that has been cancelled. Those with tickets need to contact the box office.
Police Dog Hogan (top) have a new album in retailer racks, and they promote it with a date at the venue on Tuesday night (Nov 25).
Banjo-plucking Americana meets country-fried heartbreakers and foot stomping-sing-a-longs with more than a smidgen of humour. Feelgood comes for fifteen quid.
A nice price for a nice sensation.
Last up this week, La Serenissima, part of the Music in the Round season, on Wednesday evening.
A free pre-concert talk will be given by director and violinist Adrian Chandler before the concert proper, at 8pm, with works by Montanari, Vivaldi, Pisendel and Albinoni.
Call the box office on 01908 280800.
