Michael Leach has been a full-time wildlife author and photographer since 1977 and is one of the most popular and entertaining speakers at RSPB North Bucks local group indoor meetings, and he returns on Thursday (Dec 8).
In the 1980s Michael spent five years filming wildlife documentaries for TV; he worked on more than 100 programmes but finally decided that he prefers working with books rather than television.
Today Michael works mainly with mammals and birds. He is a specialist in high-speed photographic techniques that freeze rapid action – such as birds in flight at 1/20,000th of a second.
During the past 20 years Michael has travelled extensively to track down some of the world's most charismatic wildlife.
He has worked with polar bears in the Arctic, lemurs in Madagascar, Mountain Gorillas in Rwanda, Orang-utans in Borneo, Sperm whales around the Azores, monkeys in the Amazon rainforest, plus countless other species too.
Michael's photographs have been appeared in more than 600 books and in more than 50 countries; plus every major wildlife/environmental magazine on both side of the Atlantic.
He returns to The Cruck Barn in Milton Keynes with his illustrated talk, A Fish With Feathers.
Unknown to western science until the fifteenth century, penguins were first labelled “strange gooses”. There are eighteen species of this popular bird from the metre-tall Emperor Penguin to the tiny Fairy Penguin.
They are all supremely adapted for marine life and Mike has worked with them in habitats from Galapagos to mainland Antartica.
It is sure to be an informative and entertaining indoor meeting and will take place at The Cruck Barn, City Discovery Centre, Bradwell Abbey.
Doors open at 7.15pm for a prompt start at 7.45pm.
Free refreshments will be served during the interval and admission is £2.50 for local group members and £3.50 for visitors who will be very welcome. Entry is £1 for children.
