It’s Thursday night, and this place is loud. Really LOUD!
Popworld is announcing its arrival in Milton Keynes with some serious decibels, and plenty of pop perfection to boot.
Opening its doors for the very first time following a £500K investment, the venue is looking great.
It's fresh and fun: From the over-sized cocktail glasses decorating the tables, and filled with sweeties, giant sunglasses and sun visors, to the staff who greet us wearing beaming smiles.
And when they aren’t rustling up some sweet-toothed Poptails (the Popworld name for a cocktail), they keep breaking into bar-side boogies.
Even the most elitist music fan will be swayed by the tunes in here, and you’ll be singing Barbie Girl and Reach for the Stars before you reach the upper-tier!
The balcony, which has its own bar, is a little more snug than the area it overlooks, with cute booths where you can settle back and enjoy the vibe.
Our ears are pinned back and tickled by chart-bothering tracks by artists including Amy Winehouse, Bruno Mars, House of Pain, The Killers and Peter Andre, and our feet want to follow those of the staff, and do our best Kylie or Britney impression.
But really, no-one needs to see that. And thanks to a charming man who appears at our booth, they don’t have to.
Perhaps realising I am about to dash for the dance floor, he says: ”This is for you,” and places down the biggest cocktail glass we’ve seen since we had some serious fun in New Orleans.
Disco Punch is a fruity little number with Bacardi Carta Blanca, banana liquor, pineapple juice and Red Bull Tropical all dancing in the glass.
‘A true disco mix,’ promises the drinks menu, and so it proves to be - just like the venue itself.
It's true what they say then, there ain't no party like a Popworld party!
> Popworld opens its doors with two VIP events tonight and tomorrow (Friday and Saturday, April 27 & 28), and 5ive will be meeting fans and playing their biggest hits on May 6.
