Is stress wiping the seasonal smile away from your face? Worry not, Whitespace Studios can help with that...

As Christmas draws closer, we are expected to feel all jolly inside but between frantically rushing around busy shops trying to find the perfect gifts for loved ones, attending Christmas parties and family commitments; we can be left feeling a little more frazzled than full of festive spirit.

Deborah Berryman, Yoga Teacher and Founder of Whitespace Yoga & Wellbeing Studio has revealed her top tips of how to survive the Christmas madness so you can enjoy the festive period.

1. Have a shopping break

Whilst you may be on a mission to complete all your shopping in one day, schedule in a coffee or tea break to remind yourself to not only buy presents but to also be present. Plus, your arms will love the break from carrying around those heavy bags.

2. Take your headphones to the shops

Play your favourite music while you shop. It’s amazing how much this can change your energy and keep you upbeat.

3. Just say no

During the Christmas period, there are endless gatherings and social functions and we can feel too burnt out to attend them all. If you don’t feel like going, don’t go. It’s completely acceptable to stay in the warm and get some well deserved rest… JOMO is the JOY of missing out!

4. Treat yourself to some YOU time

It’s so easy to get swept up in the festivities and while Christmas is a time to see friends and family, it’s also important we don’t forget to look after ourselves. Schedule in some time for you - whether that means going for a long walk, taking a class or switching off your smartphone for an hour; get some breathing space and time to clear your head.

5. Do something nice for a stranger

As our diaries get busier, we tend to rush around a lot more and we can easily lose sight of spreading Christmas cheer. A small act of kindness will go a long way – from buying a coffee for the next person in the queue to donating to the homeless, the joy of doing something nice for a total stranger is hugely rewarding.
