Proms in the Park: "A sight to behold and a very accomplished performance..."

The flags flew and the champagne corks were popped as the sun managed to win over the wet weather at Friday night's Proms in the Park.

Led by musical director Damian Iorio, the orchestra wowed more than two and a half thousand people with a repertoire of popular classics.

The bar was raised still further when Soprano Jeni Bern took the stage with her performance of Puccini's O Mio Babbino Caro.
The first half of the event reached a dramatic close with the William Tell Overture.

The second half of the event got underway with the modern classic lifted from The Sound of Music, I Could Have Danced All Night, before thunderous applause greeted the Dambusters March and everyone bobbed along to the Fantasia on British Sea Songs.

Jeni Bern returned to the stage, making a grand entrance in a spectacular union flag sequinned dress, to lead the ecstatic audience in Rule Britannia, Jerusalem and a jubilant version of Land of Hope and Glory, which was linked to a magnificent firework display.

“We are delighted with the success of this year’s event. The crowd were fantastic and created such a lively atmosphere. It was a sight to behold, looking out over all the celebrations and picnics that were taking place in the beautiful backdrop of Campbell Park. MKCO were brilliant as ever, with a very accomplished performance," said chief executive of The Parks Trust David Foster.

"We thank our sponsors for making this event possible and look forward to welcoming our loyal supporters and new fans for Proms in Campbell Park 2017."

Proms in Campbell Park will return on August 18, 2017.
