SPOTLIGHT ON: Milton Keynes' Jonno Davies on Broadway success and movie-making

His brief Twitter biog has him down as ‘Former Droog, deceased Kingsman and eternal Power Ranger’.

Not many people can claim that lot on a CV!
But Milton Keynes’ Jonno Davies gets about a bit.

He has gone from a Walnut Tree lad with a passion for acting, to taking on some plump roles, writes Sammy Jones.
This time last year he was preparing to make his New York stage debut, starring as lead character Alexander DeLarge in Action to the Word’s adaptation of A Clockwork Orange. “I can honestly say it was the best six months of my life,” he said.

“When the show was created it had zero budget and was playing tiny fringe venues in London.
“Seven years later it became the most talked about show in New York, it was crazy.

“The show is a really divisive piece of theatre. It was a sort of ‘love me or hate me, you’ll definitely remember me’ kind of statement.
“The real stand-out moment for me was seeing my face on a gigantic billboard in Times Square for the first time.
“It’s something you dream about when growing up as an actor so for it to actually happen was really special.”

An actor’s lot can be a difficult one, but Jonno’s future plans are well mapped out: “With 2017 being all about theatre, this year I wanted to focus on my screen work and start racking some more credits and experience.

“I’m playing a great comedic role in Gurinder Chadha’s (writer/director of Bend It Like Beckham) new film ‘Blinded By The Light’ and have a guest role in the BBC’s Silent Witness, starring opposite Colin Salmon.

“Next month I’m off to Michigan in the US to star in a feature film, playing the lead singer of a German punk rock band.
“There’ll be tattoos, piercings, questionable hair and I can’t wait,” he said.
“It’s a completely different type of character for me so I’m really excited to get stuck in.”

Elsewhere, he will be seen in the forthcoming movie, King of Crime.
"I play Andrew King, a sort of glorified and articulate heavy who is stuck in the middle of a huge amount of family politics, where the only way out is war."

So far, Jonno has performed well in the fields of film, TV and on the stage.

He has even turned his hand to a bit of modelling. What's the secret behind this success?
He laughs: "It sounds really basic, but just keep going," he says.

"There is so much rejection in this industry that it is easy to be discouraged.
"Instead, you have to take the positives from every situation, every unsuccessful casting, and take what you've learned to the next audition or performance.
"Slowly, but surely, you start to know what works," he believes.

But there is one role in particular that our local boy done swell has his eye on. He fancies his chances at 007 in the future.

"It looks like Idris Elba has landed the next Bond, so I'll see if he wants to pass it over to me in 10 years or so," he says, "Aside from that, I'm open. As long as the script is great and there's depth to the character, I'm game."

But he hasn’t forgotten home: “I come back as often as I can; Mum, Dad, my grandparents and dog still live there so it’s always good to take a break from London. I love seeing other talent from Milton Keynes doing well too.”
