WOBURN'S NEW JOEYS PLAY PEEK-A-BOO

A mob of adorable newborn Australian Red Necked wallabies, known as ‘joeys’, have been born at Woburn Safari Park in Bedfordshire just in time for the Easter holidays.

Arriving at the Park earlier this month, the new faces are now on view to the public and the youngsters can be seen busily exploring their new home and jumping in and out of their mother’s pouches.

A video of the little joeys shows them with the Park’s group of wallabies, who all reside in the large wooded ‘Australian Walkabout’ enclosure in the Foot Safari.

Georgie Bardsley, Animal Keeper at Woburn Safari Park, said: “We are very fond of the new little joeys and they are already showing strong personalities. One cheeky individual, who is always the first in line for food, has been named ‘Jimmy’ by the keepers.

"By nature, wallabies are not shy animals and are likely to approach visitors out of curiosity, so it will be important that the young joeys get used to sharing the enclosure with people.”

Woburn Safari Park is home to a large breeding group of over 35 wallabies who roam freely with Greater Rhea birds in their enclosure. Often mistaken for kangaroos, Red Necked wallabies are found in the wild along the east coast of Australia and the island of Tasmania.
