Woburn Safari Park is inviting the public to a special Elephant Appreciation Weekend in support of the International Elephant Foundation (IEF) this weekend (September 24/25).
The IEF funds scientific research, education programmes and protection for future generations of wild Asian and African elephants worldwide.
The Park’s Asian elephants (Chandrika, Damini, Yu Zin, bull Raja and two-year old calf Tarli) will be ambassadors for the species over the weekend, helping keepers with their mission to raise awareness and funds for the IEF’s in situ conservation efforts.
Special educational talks and demonstrations will be included in the cost of standard Park admission and for a small donation visitors will enjoy fabulous elephant-themed games and activities (with prizes) and the opportunity for a photograph with one of the elephants.
Asian elephants are endangered in the wild due to habitat loss, human-elephant conflict and hunting. It is estimated there are between 30,000 and 50,000 Asian elephants and between 400,000 and 500,000 African elephants left in the wild.
