Wolverton streets were once again filled with music, light and laughter as the town held its annual Lantern Festival last weekend.
This year’s theme ‘MAKE SOME NOISE’ to celebrate Milton Keynes fiftieth birthday (MK50) certainly brought the carnival atmosphere to the chilly winters evening. The parade featured five fantastic samba bands, stilt-walkers, circus from the children of Concrete Circus, a crazy Junk Orchestra with instruments upcycled from rubbish while huge crowds joined in with whistles and kazoos, creating a magical party atmosphere.
Following a month of making and music participation in local schools and public workshops, children and families from across MK paraded their energy and passion. From spectacular giant lanterns, hundreds of homemade lanterns, samba beats and instruments as well as a few surprise guests. Wolverton Town Band and Rock Choir entertained the crowds in The Square and while hundreds of local musicians, artists and volunteers created an unforgettable evening together.
The event was generously supported and funded by MK Community Foundation, Wolverton & Greenleys Town Council, Wolverton Science and Arts Institute, Tesco Bags of Help, Avenues Estate Agents, Mrs B’s Emporium, MK Community Fridge and MK Christian Foundation.
The Wolverton Lantern Festival Committee thank everyone that gets involved to create light and winter wonder for the town, it's residents and it's visitors.
