Paolo Morena was born to be a musician – it’s in his blood.
His Grandfather and Father were both accomplished musicians who played in bands in Southern Italy where the family originates from. Paolo’s Uncle Tino was even World Champion Accordionist in 1969!
Following a failed relationship at the age of 17 he ran away to Amsterdam – the pivotal moment of his life. Amsterdam at the age of 17 was an incredible city to be living in.
Working in a coffee shop by day and playing in Bars at night, Paolo came into contact with all manner of people and sounds that were to give him the foundations of the music career that followed.
Challenged to put together a band in under a week to support the Australian Doors at the Macanti Plaza, Paolo found and rehearsed a band - and achieved the target, to play in front of 5000 people, in under a week!
Those band members were to become life long friends and led directly to travel and adventures abroad, including France, Australia and the US. By the time Paolo returned to the UK he was a skilled and accomplished musician, with a wealth of experiences behind him and several diaries full of songs.
A brief period of fronting a three piece rock band, The Morena’s, followed.
But though that led to radio sessions with Janice Long on R2 and Xfm with Lauren Laverne, tours with the likes of INME, and appearances on C4, there was a growing dissatisfaction with band life, that led to Paolo’s eureka moment - and the start of his journey as the 21st Century One Man Band.
The past three years have been about developing his liive looping show – playing more than 300 gigs across the country in that time, and gaining a reputation as a unique performer.
His debut solo album,’ TheMightySmall” was released in 2015 and even attracted the attention of the likes of the Caffe Nero chain where Paolo’s music was playlisted as a “Featured New Artist” and the US publishing group Downtown, who signed Paolo to their roster.
If his talent has so far escaped you, you can put that to rights imminently - Paolo plays The Stables in Wavendon on Friday (May 19).
