Hoosiers – the Indie Pop rockers responsible for chart hits including All About Ray and Choices – have enjoyed plenty of success, and endured major deal drear over the past few years.
And the sour side caused the band to take a break from the music making, to gather themselves.
“We came back to it for a very simple reason: we started enjoying writing songs again,” says keyboard player Sam Wallow.
That enjoyment resulted in the 2014 self-released album, The News From Nowhere.
And the creativity continues – a new album is set for later this year.
On Thursday evening (June 4) the band will be live at MK11 in Kiln Farm, with support from The Sons and Betraying Franklin.
Hoosiers drummer Al Sharland went On Track with Total MK...
The song that first awakened your musical senses
The Final Countdown was the first song that send shivers down my ginger spine. I know Irwin was quite into Malcolm McDonald...or was that Trevor? One or the other
Physical or digital – how do you take your music?
Love a bit of tape
The first time you thought 'Music – this is the job for me'
We played an all-girl's school when we were about 14. Doing covers mainly. We did a smashing version of One of Us
Your best on stage memory...
Isle of Wight Festival, 2009. Couldn't see where the audience ended. And it was sunny. Oh, so sunny
And the worst gig you've ever done
There are too many to contemplate. On an early – pre-record-company - tour of Spain, we played a thrash metal joint called La Gargola (The Gargoyle), four hairy rockers listening to our big track Wishing I Was Peter Pan. That was not so sunny
What made you take up the drums?
I took up the drums to fill the tedium of music lessons, in which I, more often that not, would be assigned a shaker
Which one song by another artist do you wish you had written
Life on Mars
And one – by yourself – which holds special significance
Devil's in the Detail
If you could step into the shoes of another musician, living or dead, who would it be and what would you do?
Sam Swallow (Hoosier keyboardist) He has some lovely shoes
Are there any current musical influences you might look to
Love the new Tame Impala stuff. Although I'm sure there are a million references, it feels so fresh and original
And any genre of music that you simple can't stand?
Lots, but mainly jazz. Or Ska. Or anything that claims to be funky
Finally, tell us about the new album
It's on it's way. Hot on the heels of the previous, and brilliant News From Nowhere. Working title of The Secret Service, it will be released in conjunction with a tour later this year
